‘Why am I here again? Oh yeah… because (friend’s name) made me come…’ I moaned in my head, as I handed the girl at the cash register $20 and getting $15 back. I sighed, going over and getting my skates, before putting them on.

“____! This is going to be so much fun!” (friend’s name) said, smiling her huge smile at me. I couldn’t help but smile back at her; she’s the type of person who brightens up a room just by peeking in the doorway. Sighing, I walked over to the skate rental counter, and after getting a size __ pair of skates, I put them on. Pushing myself up, I wobbled a little bit, making my way to the rink. On my way there, though, I heard the obnoxious laughter of my school’s jock captain, Alfred F. Jones. Now, don’t get me wrong, he’s a cool guy and I’m friends with him and everything, but I’ve got my eye on a different guy. This guy is the sweetest, cutest, and the quietest guy I’ve ever met, but he’s also my best friend. His name is Matthew Williams, and he is Alfred’s younger twin brother. He doesn’t get noticed much, but what he doesn’t know if that everyone does, they just don’t talk to him because he doesn’t seem to talk much at all himself.

Back to the problem at hand, my nerves were already thinned, and when Alfred laughed again, I cringed.

“____! Dudette, I didn’t know you were gonna be here, too!” I heard a cheerful voice. My face dropped, but I put on a big smile, turning around to face him.

“Alfie! Hey! How was the game?” I asked. I wasn’t able to make it to his latest football game, because I had to babysit. He smiled at me.

“We won, but only by one point. I guess that’s because my good luck charm wasn’t there to cheer me on.” I smirked a little at this. Ever since we became friends, and I started going to his games, they had always won by a landslide. They only seemed to lose when I wasn’t able to go to the games for one reason or another. My smirk turned into a smile, as I skated slowly over to him, and gave him a hug.

“Well, I’m happy you guys still won the game!” I smiled, as I heard him laugh and he hugged me back.

“Yeah, ____, but next time, you gotta come! It’s the last game of the season!” I smiled up at him.

“Yeah, yeah. I’ll be there. What would the famous jock be without his good luck hero?” I said. Al smiled down at me. I broke away from him and skated to the edge of the rink. “Well, here I go. Watch me fall.” I laughed, as I pushed off the edge and into the rink. I didn’t notice the pair of sapphire-amethyst eyes that followed my every move as they skated around the rink.

After a while, I figured out how to turn, but I still fell a couple times. I was getting the hang of it, before I flailed my arms around and fell backwards on my butt. I heard a soft chuckle from right behind me. I leaned my head back, to see who found my misfortune so funny, to find the one and only, my favorite Canadian, Matthew Williams, smiling down at me, with his hands behind his back and smiling at me. I blushed a little bit. I absolutely loved his smile, and I was the only one he truly gave it to; everyone else, who he talked to, got a fake smile. He held his hand out for me to grab onto.

“Hey ____. You look like you could use some help.” He smiled. I smiled back, slipping my hand in his, and allowing him to pull me up. He pulled a little hard, and I crashed into him. He put his arms around my waist, so that I wouldn’t fall, and I could see a slight reddish-pink tint on his face. I felt my own face heat up. I pulled away slightly.

“T-thanks, Mattie.” I smiled, as I tried to keep my balance on the skate floor, and failing miserably, if Matthew wasn’t hanging on to me. He laughed.

“It’s ok, ____. Actually, I was wondering if you would let me help you…” he said, blushing a little more. I looked at him in surprise, and my face darkened.

‘H-he… He wants to help me skate?’ I thought, as I nodded. “Y-yeah… T-that would be awesome, Matt!” I said. He smiled at me, and, taking my hand in one of his, while his other hand stayed wrapped around my waist. We started moving, and I gripped his hand harder, not wanting to fall. I heard him chuckle a little bit, as he guided me into turning slightly. I was wobbling little more, and starting to lose my confidence fast, even if Matt was right there. We made it around the corner, and Matt stopped off at the side of the rink. My stop wasn’t so clean, though; I ended up slamming against the side. I cringed, turning around and sliding down the side. Matt looked down at me.

“Are you okay, ____?” he asked, and I could hear the concern in his voice. I looked up at him, and smiled at him.

“Yeah, Mattie. Don’t worry about it. I’m fine.” I said, using the side to pull myself up, my skates going back, so that it looked like I had my butt just sticking out behind me. I looked over at Matthew, only to see him blushing a little bit, and looking away slightly. I looked at the way that I was standing, and then I laughed out loud. Matthew looked back and me, and smiled a little bit through his blush. He offered me his hand again.

“Ready for round two, ____?” I smiled and nodded, taking his hand and pushing off the side of the rink. Then, we were off again.

After a while, I was starting to get it. I kept watching my feet, to make sure I didn’t fall, though. I heard a little laugh echo in my ear.

“All you have to do is look up, and imagine yourself gliding over the surface.”Matt whispered, making me shiver a little bit.

“O-okay…” I said, as I looked up, and did what he told me to do. I started to do a little better, and I was getting the hang of it. I turned my head back to smile at Matthew, only to find that he wasn’t there! I looked around, and noticed him a little bit behind me, giving me a smile that said ‘I’m so proud of you!’. My eyes widened, and then it happened; I lost my balance. I fell, and Matthew raced forward, trying to catch me before I fell, but he ended up falling down right beside me. We stared at each other for a little while, our faces inches apart, but then we started laughing. Matt got up, putting his hand out for me, and I took it. He pulled me up.

“Okay, so, obviously you can’t skate on your own.” He laughed, putting his arms around my waist to keep me balanced, and leaned up against the dividing wall in the middle of the rink. I blushed, and hit my face in his chest.

“Apparently not…” I whispered. It sounded like I was upset, but I was smiling against his chest, because even if I was completely horrible, that only meant that I could spend some more time with the Canadian that I had grown to love with all my heart. We pulled away from each other, and I smiled up at him. I could see him blush a little bit, as he smiled right back at me. “W-well, let’s get you some more skating practice, eh?” he asked, not even giving me a chance to reply before he put his hands on my hips and pushed me back a little bit, turning me around and getting me to skate forward. ‘Aw… he’s embarrassed…’ I thought, looking back at him out of the corner of my eye, as we skated around and around.

After a while, I got the hang of it, and let Matthew go and skate by himself, while I took it slow. I stopped off at the edge, and just watched him skate around and around really fast, like it was ice. ‘Well, he is a hockey player…’ I thought, as I smiled at his form. “You know, he really likes you.” a voice said right beside me. I jumped a little bit, as I noticed Alfred leaning on the edge right next to me. I blushed once I processed what he said. Al looked at me and smiled a little. “And by the look of your face, I’d say you feel the same way? You should go for it, ____. I know it’s kinda surprising to hear me encouraging this, but, dudette, Matt really deserves to have attention that’s not swept away as soon as I walk in the room.” He said, softly smiling out at the rink, watching his brother skating his heart out. I looked at him, surprised, but then I smiled softly at him. “You really love your brother, don’t you, Al? Even if it doesn’t always look like it, you truly love and look after him.” I said. He looked at me out of the corner of his eye, and then back out to the rink. “Yeah, I mean, of course I love Matthew. And, I can’t stand how people ignore him all the time, but really, what am I supposed to do? Whenever I try to get him involved in anything I’m doing, something always gets in between us. I just want my brother to be happy, you know, ____?” he said, and as I looked at him, he had a sad look in his eyes. I put my hand on his, making him look at me. I smiled at him. “Don’t worry. I’m not about to forget all about Mattie, just because some football superstar comes waltzing into the room.” I said, as I winked at him. He laughed. “Ouch. Harsh, ____. Way to injure my ego. But seriously, thank you. I know how much you mean to my brother, and to hear you say that makes me feel less of a failure as a brother.” He said, smiling at me with a soft sad smile, one I had never seen on his face before. I was about to say something, but then a song came on over the speakers. It was What Make You Beautiful by One Direction! My eyes widened, and I could feel my face darken. Whenever I would hear this song, I would automatically think of Matthew. Alfred laughed when he saw my face. “What’s wrong, ____, you look like you just ran a mile.” He said. I stuck my tongue out at him, and went to get back on the rink. “I’m gonna go practice some more. Maybe I can at least be able to skate around without falling by the end of the night.” I smiled at Alfred, before I pushed off the edge and started skating again.

As I was skating, I was singing along with the words of the song. “You’re insecure, don’t know what for, you’re turnin’ heads when you walk through the door…” I whispered as I skated, and I didn’t notice that someone had decided to skate up behind me, and listen. “So boy, come on. You’ve got it wrong, to prove I’m right, I put it in a song, I don’t know why, you’re being shy, and turn away when I look into your eyes…  I smiled, as I turned around the corner without falling, but that’s when I saw him. My eyes widened, and I wobbled, before I fell. Matthew tried to catch me, but was only pulled down with me, and landed on top of me. We stared at each other for what felt like forever, before we both started laughing. We quieted down, and I looked at him, before I started singing to him. “Baby, you light up my world like nobody else. The way that you flip your hair gets me overwhelmed, but when you look at the ground, it ain’t hard to tell, you don’t know.. you don’t know you’re beautiful.” I sang, tapping him on his nose as I continued singing the last part.  Baby, you light up my world like nobody else, the way that you flip your hair gets me overwhelmed, but when you smile at the ground it ain’t hard to tell, you don’t know, you don’t know you’re beautiful. If only you saw what I could see, you’d understand why I want you so desperately, right now I’m looking at you and I can’t believe, you don’t know… you don’t you’re beautiful. You don’t know you’re beautiful. That’s what makes you beautiful.  I finished, looking him in his eyes. His face was as red as his sweatshirt. “Do... do you really think that…?” he asked me in a whisper, before looking away from me. I smiled at him, and took his chin in my hand, bringing it back to look at me. “Of course I do. I think you’re the most handsome boy in the world, Matthew. I love you.” I said, before my face lit up at what I had just confessed to him. “Uh… um... Matt, I’m sorry, I just got caught up in the moment, I understand if you do-” I said, before I was cut off by warm lips. My face heated up more, and I was frozen. After a couple seconds without me responding, Matthew pulled away, sad.

“I… I’m sorry, ____... I shouldn’t ha-” I didn’t let him finish, before I crashed my lips up into his.  He froze for a second, before he kissed me back eagerly. He rolled us over, so that I was on top of him, and sat up against the dividing wall, pulling me to his lap in the process, and without breaking the kiss. His arms wrapped themselves around my waist, and mine snaked their way around his neck, with my fingers tangling themselves in his hair. I smiled into the kiss, and I could feel him doing the same thing, as his grip on my waist tightened. Pulling away from him when air became an absolute necessity, I put my forehead on his and smiled. He smiled back at me. “Je taime aussi, ____...”

“How about we get out of here? I know a great place for hot chocolate..” I whispered, smiling softly at him, before pecking his lips again softly. He smiled at me, before he got up, and put his hand out to help me up. Gladly taking it, I was pulled up by him, and we both skated to the edge of the rink, before getting out of it and sitting down to take our skates off. We returned the skates, and, walking to the entrance of the roller rink, Matthew grabbed hold of my hand. I smiled down at our hands, and intertwined our fingers together.  Maybe it wasn’t such a bad thing to come after all…’ I thought, as I smiled up at my Canadian love, smiling more when I realized that he was all mine, and nothing would ever change that.

ok, here's my first Canada x Reader insert, that's not a birthday tribute! (if ur waiting for that, it's coming in July..) but yeah.. funny story behind this one, it was actually inspired when my friend suckered me into going skating with her... in MY mind, i was being held up most of the time by Matthew (as weird as that sounds), but i still fell... ended up with bruises all along my knees, and i listened to Bruises by Chairlift, just to be ironic about it.. but anyways, enough of my ranting.... i hope u all enjoy the first of many to come stories that feature everyone's favorite Canadian, Matthew Williams! :iconbigheartplz:
